Tips for successful site submissions

Here are some tips for successful site submissions:

* Make sure you have content for search engines to scan. In general, have more than 10 posts on your site to give the search engines something to examine and evaluate.
* Do not submit your site to the same search engine more than once a month or longer, depending upon their criteria, not your anxiousness to be listed.
* Have ready to type, or copy and paste, a description of your site that is less than 200 words long, the title of the site, and the categories your site may belong to in a search engine directory.
* Have a list of your website's various "addresses/URLs" ready. You can submit your root directory as well as specific categories and feeds to search engines, expanding your search engine coverage.
* Keep a list of the various search engines and directories you submit to so you do not accidentally resubmit too soon, and you can keep track of how they include you among their pages and results.

Forum: Search Engine Optimization General Forum

Some SEO Techniques

<col style="width: 48pt;" width="64">

hello

Here are some SEO advices for beginners i can say.

First of all i am in this field for over 3 years. I can say that i don't like the time spent and that's why i hired someone. But before that here is what i have manage to learn:

1. Link Directories - Good only for PR (google case)

Example: I paid about 300$ for links on many directories, on PR3-5 pages. All good. When google crawled some of them the PR went to 1 or 2.

Conclusion - Don't waist your time too much and especially the money on those.

2. Social Bookmarking - 100 digs for some pages

Example: I had a Web 2.0 Design Tutorial website and got about 100 digs for some articles, technorati, del.icio.us and so on.

When checking backlinks digg.com showed only 5 of them.

Conclusion - Pretty good but make sure your article is 110% original.

3. Article Submission - 20 articles on "famous" article directories

Example: As i was writing the tutorials i thought "let's publish them".

Backlinks - very few after so much work

4. Link Exchange websites - Paid about 50$/monthly for 3 link exchange websites.

Example: I added my website to this websites and received about 400 links every month. I added a link exchange script with the "nofollow" attribute ON. I even added the disallow rule in .htaccess. All good so far.

After 3 months i got about 10 emails from different people asking me to remove their links because their sites were banned from Google.

Conclusion: Don't do this kind of link exchange.REALLY DON'T. Your link will end on a 100 link page which of course will end to banning from Google and who knows others too.

5. Paid Traffic - About 50$/monthly for as they said " 3000 unique visitors"

Example - Because i did not had the time to surf other websites i paid for this services.

Conclusion: Google Analytics was telling me that from 3000 visitors/monthly i got only 200 from that site.

Alexa was the only one who showed that i had heavy traffic. But if you don't pay for 1 month the Alexa rank will go down too. Don't waist your time with this.

Forum: Search Engine Optimization General Forum

Ms. Marissa Meyer, the vice-president of search products and user experience of Google in the Web 2.0 conference at San Francisco announced that Google would soon be launching a new experiment that
would be very different in the Google Labs.Users would now be able to use social search to find friends. Users would need to be logged into a Google profile in order to use the new launch that is the social search. Google will suggest the user with connections to those users who are publicly available in the social network and would also try to crawl through your Gmail accounts if the users you select also have a Gmail account.
what is ur opinion about it?
Forum: Google Forum

How to promote my new website ?

While many options exist to help you increase web presence and market a web site, this brief list of web-marketing basics goes over some of the more useful and widely-trusted tactics.
Search Engine Optimization
Search engines send out software 'spiders' that browse a web site's content and determine the site's rank; in other words, a site's importance or relevance compared to other sites. Following the guidelines below, you can begin to increase your site's ranking:

Page Titles:

Make sure you title each page within your site according to each page's particular content. The words between the <title> and </title> tags in the page's HTML code not only appear at the top of your browser window, but provide essential information to search engine spiders.

META Tags:

Though hidden, search engine spiders value these tidbits of code. Because of this, your META tags should be carefully crafted. For example, make sure that keywords used in a <META name="keywords"> tag reflect the page's actual content. Yet, if a page's content overuses keywords, your site can be penalized with a lower ranking.

Structure:

Text in HTML header codes (<h1>, <h2>, etc.) carries more ranking weight than basic text. Search engine spiders index and rank web pages more accurately when you organize the page's content using standardized document structure methods.

Submit URL:

Submit your site for indexing to the larger search engines:

    * Google: http://www.google.com/intl/en/submit_content.html
    * MSN: http://search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx
    * Yahoo!: http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html

Linking:

Many search engines consider the number of incoming links to a site a good indicator of that site's importance. In other words, when other sitesespecially other higher-ranked siteslink to your site, the higher your site's ranking will go.

Forum: Search Engine Optimization General Forum

Google Indexing Tricks?

1. Find the Face Behind the Result This is a neat trick you can use on a Google Image search to filter the search results so that they include only images of people. How is this useful? Well, it could come in handy if you are looking for images of the prominent people behind popular products, companies, or geographic locations. You can perform this search by appending the code &imgtype=face to the end of the URL address after you perform a standard Google Image search.

2. Google + Social Media Sites = Quality Free Stuff If you are on the hunt for free desktop wallpaper, stock images, Wordpress templates or the like, using Google to search your favorite social media sites is your best bet. The word free in any standard search query immediately attracts spam. Why wade through potential spam in standard search results when numerous social media sites have an active community of users who have already ranked and reviewed the specific free items that interest you. All you have to do is direct Google to search through each of these individual social media sites, and bingo you find quality content ranked by hundreds of other people.

3. Find Free Anonymous Web Proxies A free anonymous web proxy site allows any web browser to access other third-party websites by channeling the browsers connection through the proxy. The web proxy basically acts as a middleman between your web browser and the third-party website you are visiting. Why would you want to do this? There are two common reasons.

4. Google for Music, Videos, and Ebooks - Google can be used to conduct a search for almost any file type, including Mp3s, PDFs, and videos. Open web directories are one of the easiest places to quickly find an endless quantity of freely downloadable files. This is an oldie, but its a goodie! Why thousands of webmasters incessantly fail to secure their web severs will continue to boggle our minds.

5. Browse Open Webcams Worldwide Take a randomized streaming video tour of the world by searching Google for live open access video webcams. This may not be the most productive Google trick ever, but it sure is fun!

6. Judge a Site by its Image Find out what a site is all about by looking at a random selection of the images hosted on its web pages. Even if you are somewhat familiar with the target sites content, this can be an entertaining little exercise. You will almost surely find something you didnt expect to see. All you have to do is use Googles site: operator to target a domain in an image search.

7. Results Based on Third-Party Opinion - Sometimes you can get a better idea of the content located within a website by reading how other websites refer to that sites content. The allinanchor: Google search operator can save you large quantities of time when a normal textual based search query fails to fetch the information you desire. It conducts a search based on keywords used strictly in the anchor text, or linking text, of third party sites that link to the web pages returned by the search query. In other words, this operator filters your search results in a way such that Google ignores the title and content of the returned web pages, but instead bases the search relevance on the keywords that other sites use to reference the results. It can add a whole new dimension of variety to your search results.

Forum: Google Forum

Google AdWords Optimization Tips

Google Adwords Tips: Click Through Rate

Click through rate is a rough approximation of relevancy, in many ways this parallels the idea of grading the web on links. A relevant ad will have higher click through rates than a non relevant listing.

Google ads are not strictly price driven. Some think the added relevancy factor relates to the words in the add, while this is somewhat true, the true multiple is click through rate. If a web site has 3* the click through rate, that means Google can sell 3* as much advertising. To reward careful and considerate ads Google chops this price to 1/3 of what it would be with a site that had a third of the click through rate.

Google Adwords Tips: Keyword Selection

Successful ad buyers learn how to lower their prices by tweaking them in to match what the end user is looking for. Bidding wars should be avoided as they are a technique that indicate a lack of creativity. There are multiple ways to say the same thing, and few people are creative enough to think what is "searched for." Yes you can exactly describe your product, but you need the people who have a problem to find your solution weather or not it exists. You may even want some of your keyword phrases to be in question format.

If you take the time to be the only one listed for a creative relevant term you may seem like the only answer to a problem, or at least the only one who cared. If you have the keywords you want to list well in within your text it they will be bold when people search for them. This will also add to your click through rate.

Qualify your traffic. One word search terms frequently draw competitors and junk traffic to a level that usually exceeds any intrinsic value the listing may have. Not every ad makes money.

Google AdWords Tips: AdWords Groupings

You can place expensive words in there own ad group. You may want to use some ad groups for generic terms and others for specific terms.

As long as they are relevant and specific you are not likely to use too many keyword phrases, just remember to place them in various groups and track them.

The proper technique to gather accurate market information is to overspend off the start and see what happens in the long run. If you overspend you collect faster feedback. You learn from your account.

Google Adwords Tips: Bidding

The important tip as far as bids go is to bid enough to get first screen exposure, and do not keep throwing more money at a problem to do this. If the click through rate is garbage, fix the keywords and content of the ads.

If you start out way too low you will always be fighting an uphill battle. Remember that you are bidding against the best ads that have been developed over time so you are likely going to get your tail kicked for a while.

Forum: Google Forum

Bad web designers can get you banned from Google

I don't like to accuse people of things, but I have a feeling that the woman I hired over the summer to re-design my blog inserted some spam which ultimately got me kicked out of Google.

With help from the people here on this forum, I found the wicked spam and deleted it.

What bothers me is the note that was left above the spam. Here it is:

# Added to appease certain plugins which check for this code in this file:
# wp_footer();
?>

It appears that the note was left behind to explain why the spam was inserted. That's why I believe my designer put that in my blog. Efforts to reach her have proven fruitless, as she's apparently dropped off the planet.

Be careful who you hire to design or re-design your blog.
Forum: Google Forum
